Analysis

As first thing, please, keep in mind that these are my personal thoughts. I made this section to explain what I got, or it would be better saying "what I think I got" about Mikuni.

Let's get starting with what is known about him.

Mikuni is a 23-years-old man that owns an Antique Shop, and he loves books and reading. He also is the strongest among the known Eves, and the one that seems to know well vampires and Servamp. In fact, he even adfirms that he can explain a way to break a contract between an Eve and his Servamp. And it is not just this, because he knows C3 President in person, a figure that has never been shown until now. He always appears when he has a reason to do it, and he tries to manipulate people in order to make them do what he wants.

Once Mikuni was a child he was a cute one indeed. He had a cute smile on his face and he was chosen as next owner of the Servamp of Lust, that was his grandfather's. Also, he had to be the next head of the Alicein family.

When Mikado explained him that he betrayed his mother (Mikuni's) with his teacher and they had a child, Mikuni replied quietly that nothing could be done but trying to cherish Misono with everything they can. But he also said that he was disgusted with him.

Anyway, we can see that he became a wonderful onii-chan for Misono, and he started to love his from the bottom of his heart. Mikuni's feelings for Misono are, in my personal opinion, the only thing that he keeps as true in a world made of lies that happened to be revealed that day that his mother came back home with a very little Misono, after have killed his mother because of hatred and jelously through the Servamp of Envy.

Only a few is clear, but... What's happened after that moment only was a disgrace after another, because, I mean... what it's shown until now is that one day, even if she tried her best until that moment, Mikuni's mother tried to kill Misono, and Mikuni made a plan to stop her but ended up killing his own mother instead, making a contract himself with the Servamp of Envy to protect Misono. After that, Mikuni left the house and Mikado disowned him, ordining everyone in that house to cancel Mikuni from their lives, as if he never existed in first place. Snow Lily erased every memory of that day from Misono, so he only thought to hate his brother for a not well known reason, but his hate descesced day by day, because, ohi... Mikuni only gave him love. Misono is not stupid, even if his head never replied his questions, his heart did. Anyway... After that, Misono became the heir of the Aliceins and he also made a contract with All of Love, the Servamp of Lust, once his grandfather died sometimes after. Or at least... this is what we know.

Now. Now. Let's start with my personal speculations about this.

Eh? I mean... EEEEH???

Nothing in this story is clear, and I was just about filling my mind up with every kind of strange and impossible thoughts about the truth, that with not even a real information is totally unknown.

But let's start with what we know:

  1. Mikuni's mother killed Misono's mother with the help of Jeje, whom made a contract with her.

  2. Misono grew up in that Alicein house and he had a poor phisical healt. He ended up only living in that garden, prisoner of the love.

  3. Mikuni had to inherit the role of heir of the house and the Servamp of Lust, but Misono did it instead.

  4. Mikuni killed his own mother to protect his step-brother and even made a contract with the Servamp of Envy himself.

  5. Mikuni left the house and Misono's memories about that night in which his step-mother died have been erased by Snow Lily and everyone lied to him in order to protect him from the truth.

Now, now... Let's analysing these points one for one.

Point 1. Mikuni's mother killed Misono's mother for jelously and took her child saying that she wanted to grow him up with love because the child has no fault in Mikado's mistakes. But whaaaaat?? I mean, she hated that woman THAT MUCH that she even killed her with hatred and jelously and she took over her soon trying to cherish him with love to... expiate her and Mikado's sins...? Is this really possible? From the very first moment, I thought NO. Misono is as the same as his mother. He looks exactly like her. And his mother was Mikuni's teacher, so how could that bitch of a woman of Mikuni's mother killing that woman and saying she would love and grow up her son to expiate her sins??? Really, how???? My personal explaination is: she was a psychopathic.

This is the only thing that came to my mind, she was a fucking psychopathic. Because, fuck, just explain me why it looks like Mikuni was nothing for her. She already had a son and he was just a 8 years-old child. She had to put all her love and effort on Misono as if she and Mikado never had a son and look at what the fuck happened: she ended up trying to kill Misono. Sure, seven years passed since her contract with Jeje, but what? Did he become too strong for her so the jelously made her crazy or she was devoured by hatred and jelously? How can this thing be Jeje's fault? There is no way, in my personal opinion.

I bet the truth is another, but let's go ahead with this analysis.

Point 2. Nothing to say about the second point, I mean... It can happen that a child has a poor healt and he is overprotected, even if this is really suspicious.

Point 3. Since Mikuni was kicked off the lives of everyone in the Alicein house, and they tried to hide the truth to Misono, he was the only child for Mikado and he made a legit contract with Lily, so everything looks ok, but NO, IT ISN'T.

Mikado is such a shitty father with too much love for Misono and no love for Mikuni or... what? Really, what's up with him and his wife? Mikuni was not enough, I guess. But how? He has always been a very smart child, even smarter than everyone else in that house. Smarted than his father and than his grand-father. He won at chess against Hattori-san while no one in that family, not even Misono could. And we can see he was a sort of eulogy in his hand in the only photo with the four of them we can see. So he probably was a child to be proud of, I guess...? But no, Mikado and his wife only cared about Misono, apparently. I mean, that woman even prefered the bastard child that another person had with his own husband than her own son. Is this really possible?

Point 4. What was Lily doing that night that Mikuni's mother tried to kill Misono? Why didn't he stop Jeje? How can be possible that Lily, a Servamp, was not able to stop his brother while a 15 years-old boy with no power at all (I guess) did? We can see that scene in which Lily was trying to protect Misono while Mikuni was shocked and Mikado was not even there when the tragedy itself happened. I do not think that what was shown there was the real truth, not that only, I mean. There is more. Becaue it looks impossible to me that Lily can't stop Jeje's powers but Mikuni stopped his mother and Jeje and even made a contract with him. In first place, he had not a contract yet when his mother got crazy and tried to kill Misono, because Jeje still was her own Servamp. So how did Mikuni menage to get advantage of that situation even killing his own mother while Lily let him doing that?

Lily had to protect eveyone in that house, right? So what about Mikuni? He still was part of the house when the tragedy happened. The fuck, Tsurugi is the only one that even tried to protect him at the cost of his life. Everyone just did other things or what is the truth?

Point 5. Jeje was invited by Lily in the Alicein mansion but he ended up making a contract with the wife of the heir and after that, with her own son. Lily really never noticed a fuck of this? I mean, before the tragedy happened. Jeje is the one that was invited there... why in first place? And after that, why he let everything ending up like that? I do not think he is evil at all, my specualtions are others. And now that I have finished with the analysis of the past, I can give them.

So... Look at this. When I saw this, the door of a new world has opened to me.

"East of Eden" is the absolute masterpiece of John Steinbeck, a wonderful American author that I already knew for his "The Grapes of Wrath", book that left a deep sign on me. I still think of that book with every different eyes everytime I question my mind about things, and I am shocked about how much it lets me think. I am someone that was grown up in a family like the Joad one. That feeling I had reading "The Grapes of Wrath" was what I search for in a book: myself. Or it would be better saying, what I do not understand about myself. I search for those words that have no name in me, but I can find a way to call them while I read myself in a book. "The Grapes of Wrath" is about poor people and what does born from the poor people are bonds that are not explainable just with those kind of bonds are stronger than the others, because it is a proper and unique way to live. I like that book really much, it is one of my favorite together with "No Longer Human" of Dazai Osamu. The nature of the human being is let be nude there, as long as it happens in "East of Eden", that left me maybe an even deeper sign that "The Grapes of Wrath".

All my world was all put upside down. All my certainties were killed by that only word that who had read it knows well, and it is Timshel. "Thou mayest".

Now, I could write a whole book about my considerations about "East of Eden" and Timshel, but this is not the point. Or at least, I will turn back to talk about it after discussing other things about the book, the ones that made me write this section.

I was saying... "East of Eden" tells the story of three generations of the Trask family. Well then, they are the Aliceins to me.

I mean, I am NOT saying that the Aliceins are the Servamp version of the Trasks, but I think they are related somehow. Or at least, I am sure Mikuni may agree with me. This Antique Shop is called The Land of Nod, it can't be a coincidence. He also reads that book.

Starting from this point of view of mine, I would like to specify that Aliceins' family affair have nothing in common with the Trasks ones, but still, they have points in common.

Cyrus and Mikage were the first generation. Cyrus' wife was called Alice and he made a garden for her, so... can you see it, right now? We have that "Garden of Eden", and even "Alice in the Garden". Who doesn't know "East of Eden" can think that this is only a reference about "Alice in Wonderland", and it surely is, but do not forget that "Alice in Wonderland" is even a reference in "East of Eden", because Cathy was obsessed with Alice and started to get crazier and crazier after reading that book.

Anyway... If Cyrus Trask and his wife Alice are a reference for Mikage and his wife, Mikado is surely Adam Trask, Cyrus's son. Here we do not have Charles, his step-brother, but I always thought that the character with a reference for him is Jeje. It is because of the fact that Jeje hides his face and Charles hidden himself in that house because he had a deep scar on his face and he was a lot concerned about it. As Jeje is, I think, because he doesn't want to show his face but we can see that he has a sort of cross sign on his head when he is in his snake form, so... Maybe it is just a coincidence, but meh.
Aside this, Jeje cares a lot of Lily and Lily was the one that invited him in the Alicein house, so they may be another "couple of brothers" about the protagonists.

Mikado's wife is a reference to CATHY AMES INDEED. His wife. So here we are, and Mikuni and Misono's reference are Caleb and Aaron Trask.
Caleb was the malicious one, while Aaron was the "good" one. Caleb is also "the envy", and he was left back by his father and mother that always prefered Aaron over him. Aaron was also rewarded with a clock, and here there is another reference to Misono.

I have to say, Jeje reminds me of Lee too, because of his ponytail. Eh... To be honest... I thought about Casy from "The Grapes of Wrath" but I do not think that is not the case at all, it is just that I am obsessed with any reference to John Steinbeck's books. But Jeje reminds me of Lee for real, even because Lee studied ebraic and translated the bible and Timshel. He studied it very well and Jeje is also dressed like a priest, so maybe...

Speaking of Caleb and Aaron, there is no doubt they are like Mikuni and Misono to me, and Caleb himself is not only Cain but he inherited the evil side from his mother, so he is the snake too. Because... Come on, Cathie is Eve and even the evil, she is the snake indeed and Mikuni's mother even made a contract with a snake. Here there are a lot of fantasy things there but the references still remain.

I thought a lot about this and I think that the fact the Mikuni often tries to manipulate the others is like what the snake did with Eve. Mikuni is like the snake when he talks to Mahiru, also to Shuhei. He tries to make Mahiru killing Tsurugi and to make Shuhei using his Jeje to get revenge against Shamrock.

He also has a lot of mysteryous things around him, but exactly like Caleb, he is not evil. He is even evil. As every human being is made of light and darkness, here he is. Mikuni is good, but he is not good too. Which his real plans are is a mystery, but we can be sure that it is nothing good. At least, I think.

I am sure Mikuni is a sad person. He copied Tsurugi's clown way to be to make a mask for himself, because as you can see, Mikuni became an adolescent with not a smile at all. When he entered C3 it was like he has not any will to smile. Not to be good. He only tried to protect Misono at any cost and he is even ok to be hated by him right now, if this means letting him smile.

As you can listen to from Mikuni and Mikuni & Misono's songs, the only thing that Mikuni repeats is that he loves Misono with all his heart. Everything can happen but he will always love Misono, even if it means keeping the mask of the clown, be hated and hating himself, of course.

So, starting from this point of view that the Aliceins are a bit like the Trasks, my thoughts (MINE, ok? I can think what I want) are these:

Can you see Mikuni here? He is shocked by a revelation, or at least, this is what it looks to me. I think that Mikuni's mother was a liar and at that time Jeje was envious of Lily because of his beauty, so she tried to use Jeje and manipulated him to kill Misono's mother because she was the one that made her husband betray her.
Also, I think she never had the will to cherish Misono well. I think it is her fault if he had a poor healt and she planned since the begin to take that child to Alicein's house to use him somehow. Yes, we know that she was all happy together with her husband and Misono, and she even made a meal to Mikuni when he was sick. But I think she became crazier day by day, because Misono resembled his mother too much.

Also, there are Adam Trask's aspects that Mikuni has, as the fact that he left the Garden and never came back, but Caleb is the one that represents Mikuni the most, because of the generations and of the fact that Cain was a farmer, also Caleb wanted to be, and Mikuni digs graves. I do not know what is in Mikuni's heart but I am sure he feels like Cain he is Cain. The fact that he reads "East of Eden" with that face makes me think so much. The fact that his shop is "The Land of Nod" really means to me.

I can't be sure of what is with him and only Tanaka-sensei can say it, but I am sure Mikuni is not Mikado's son. Cathie was a bitch and Caleb and Aaron mostly were Charles sons. Caleb was like his father, while Aaron was like her. The distant eyes, they said. Also Mikuni looks like his mother. Everyone in the family, Mikage > Mikado > Misono never won against Hattori-san, but oh. Mikuni was an exception. And that story of the heir of the house... It is Misono, but why not Mikuni? Because he killed his mother to protect Misono? Really he needed to be kicked off of everything just because he did the only thing he can to protect his beloved younger brother? Or maybe is that he really is not Mikado's son? Is that true that there are aspects of Mikado that Mikuni seems to have inehered, but he is crafty and smart, there is the chance that he is trying to let everyone think that the things are like that even if they are not, especially because he observes well everyone and Mahiru is easy to trust what he sees. He can't doubt people so it would make sense if Mikuni's clown reactions about Abel were made to fool the others, especially him. And another thing... Is that I think that maybe Lily had an affair with Mikuni's mother or such. The fact that he was not that happy to have him as Eve in the future and that he let Jeje does everything to that family, really means not a thing...? Come on... Really Lily did not have any say in this sistuation? "Li-ly", "Jeje", they somehow look closer than the other brothers to me. Or Lily would have invited eveyone in the Alicein mansion.

Ok, these are crazy and maybe mostly wrong speculations of mine, but I love Mikuni and I usually think a lot about everything. I love making stories about everything. I don't mind if I got all wrong, at the countrary, I would be more than happy to see a different truth behind this tragedy. I thank with all my heart Tanaka-sensei, because she made me think and dream so much about everything in Servamp, and I am so happy to have the chance to read it because I found a lot of myself here. This is the only thing I search for in a book, and Servamp is giving me what I need.

Thank you so much for the beautiful story, Tanaka-sensei. And thank you for creating Mikuni. I love him with all my heart and I wish him happiness with his beloved Misono. I also hope one day he will return to his house. Aaron wasn't allowed to enter the Promised Land, yes, but Mikuni can. References or not, Mikuni is Mikuni and I am sure he can. Thou mayest.
