Katie Scarlett O'Hara was born to parents Gerald O'Hara and Ellen Robillard O'Hara and grew up on the Tara family plantation, which she is to inherit when her parents have passed on. Scarlett is strong-willed and stubborn, not to mention stunningly beautiful, and is very flirtatious with all the gentlemen.

Scarlett only has eyes for one man - Ashley Wilkes. A man she can never have, as he is engaged, and will soon marry cousin Melanie Hamilton. Scarlett will spend the entire book and movie trying to get him.

When The War breaks out, Scarlett's life is changed forever. She marries Melanie's brother, Charles, to spite Ashley, and is soon widowed. Later, she will marry her sister Suellen's beau, Frank Kennedy, in order to get the money to pay back taxes on Tara. Eventually, she will marry the one man who truly loves her, Rhett Butler.

In the film, Scarlett's character goes from a flirty little girl with not a care in the world worse than not knowing what dress to wear to a strong, yet vulnerable, independent, yet desperately wanting the man she really loves, Rhett, young woman. Throughout the film and book, she uses her beauty and intelligence to get what she wants.
