Philosopher's Stone
The Keeper of the Keys
..."CAR CRASH!" roared Hagrid, jumping up so angrily that the Dursleys scuttled back to their corner. "How could a car crash kill Lily an' James Potter? It's an outrage! A scandal! Harry Potter not knowin' his own story when every kid in our world knows his name!"...
The Mirror of Erised
...There he was, reflected in it, white and scared-looking, and there, reflected behind him, were at least ten others. Harry looked over his shoulder -- but still, no one was there. Or were they all invisible too? Was he in fact in a room full of invisible people and this mirror's trick was that it reflected them, invisible or not?
He looked in the mirror again. A woman standing right behind his reflection was smiling at him and waving. He reached out a hand and felt the air behind him. If she was really there, he'd touch her, their reflections were so close together, but he felt only air -- she and the others existed only in the mirror. She was a very pretty woman. She had dark red hair and her eyes -- her eyes are just like mine, Harry thought, edging a little closer to the glass. Bright green -- exactly the same shape, but then he noticed she was crying; smiling, but crying at the same time. The tall, thin, black-haired man standing next to her put his arm around her. He wore glasses, and his hair was very untidy. It stuck up at the back, just as Harry's did.
Harry was so close to the mirror now that his nose was nearly touching that of his reflection. "Mom?" he whispered. "Dad?"...
The Man With Two Faces
..."Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. He didn't realize that love as powerful as you mother's for you leaves its own mark. Not a scar, no visible sign... to have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever. It is in your very skin..." (Dumbledore)

Prisoner of Azkaban
The Dementor
Harry's eyes rolled up into his head. He couldn't see. He was drowning in cold. There was a rushing in his ears as though of water. He was being dragged downward, the roaring growing louder...
And then, from far away, he heard screaming, terrible, terrified, pleading screams. He wanted to help whoever it was, he tried to movie his arms, but couldn't... a thick fog was swirling around him, inside him...
Grim Defeat
Someone was screaming, screaming inside his head... a woman...
"Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!"
"Stand aside, you silly girl... stand aside, now..."
"Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead --"
Numbing, swirling white mist was filling Harry's brain... What was he doing? Why was he flying? He needed to help her... She was going to die... She was going to be murdered... He was falling, falling through the icy mist.
"Not Harry! Please... have mercy... have mercy..."
A shrill voice was laughing, the woman was screaming, and Harry knew no more...
The Marauder's Map 1
..."When they get near me --" Harry stared at Lupin's desk, his throat tight. "I can hear Voldemort murdering my mum."
Lupin made a sudden motion with his arm as though to grip Harry's shoulder, but thought better of it. There was a moment's silence, then -- "Why did they have to come to the match?" said Harry bitterly...
...
..."I met him!" growled Hagrid. "I musta bin the last ter see him before he killed all them people! It was me what rescued Harry from Lily an James's house after they was killed! Jus' got him outta the ruins, poor little thing, with a great slash across his forehead, an' his parents dead... an' Sirius Black turns up, on the flyin' motorbike he used ter ride. Never occurred ter me what he was doin' there. I didn' know he'd bin Lily an' James's Secret-Keeper. Thought he'd jus' heard the news o You-Know-Who's attack an' com ter see what he could do"
Goblet of Fire
Priori Incantatem
The smoky shadow of a tall man with untidy hair fell to the ground as Bertha had done, straightened up, and looked at him... and Harry, his arms shaking madly now, looked back into the ghostly face of his father.
"Your mother's coming..." he said quietly. "She wants to see you... it will be all right... hold on..."
And then she came... first her head, then her body... a young woman with long hair, the smoky, shadowy form of Lily Potter blossomed from the end of Voldemort's wand, fell to the ground, and straightened like her husband. She walked close to Harry, looking down at him, and she spoke in the same distant, echoing voice as the others, but quietly, so that Voldemort, his face now livid with fear as his victims prowled around him, could not hear...
"When the connection is broken, we will linger for only moments... but we will give you time... you must get to the Portkey, it will return you to Hogwarts... do you understand, Harry?"
Order of the Phoenix
The Woes of Mrs. Weasley
The little people in the photograph jostled among themselves, and those hidden right at the back appeared at the forefrong of the pictures. "That's Dumbledore's brother, Aberforth, only time I ever met him, strange bloke... Sirius, when he still had short hair... and... there you go, thought that would interest you!"
Harry's heart turned over. His mother and father were beaming up at him, sitting on either side of a small, watery-eyed man Harry recognized as wormtail: He was the one who had betrayed their whereabouts to Voldemort and so helped bring about their deaths.
Snape's Worst Memory
"Leave him ALONE!"
James and Sirius looked around. James's free hand jumped to his hair again. It was one of the girls from the lake edge. She had thick, dark red hair that fell to her shoulders and startingly green almond-shaped eyes - Harry's eyes.
"All right, Evans?" said James, and the tone of his voice was suddenly pleasant, more mature.
"Leave him alone," Lily repeated. She was looking at James with every sign of great dislike. "What's he done to you?"
"Well," said James, appearing to deliberate the point, "it's more the fact that he exists, if you know what I mean..."
Many of the surrounding watchers laughed, Sirius and Wormtail included, but Lupin, still apparently intent on his book, didn't, and neither did Lily. "You think you're funny," she said coldly. "But you're just an arrogance, bullying toerag, Potter. Leave him alone."
"I will if you go out with me, Evans," said James quickly. "Go on...Go out with me, and I'll never lay a want on old Snivellus again."
Behind him, the Impediment Jinx was wearing off. Snape was beginning to inch toward his wand, spitting out soapsuds as he crawled.
"I wouldn't go out with you if it was a choice between you and the giant squid," said Lily.
...
Lily, whose furious expression had twitched for an instant as though she was going to smile, said, "Let him down!"
"Certainly," said James and he jerked his wand upward. Snape fell into a crumbled heap on the ground. Disentangling himself from his robes, he got quickly to his feet, wand up, but Sirius said, "Locomotor mortis!" and Snape keeled over again at once, rigid as a board.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Lily shouted. She had her own want out now. james and Sirius eyed it warily.
"Ah, Evans, don't make me hex you," said James earnestly.
"Take the curse off him, then!"...
"I don't need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!" (Snape)
Lily blinked. "Fine," she said coolly. "I won't bother in future. And I'd wash your pants if I were you, Snivellus."
"Apologize to Evans!" James roared at Snape, his want pointed threatenintly at him.
"I don't want you to make him apologize," Lily shouted, rounding on James. "You're as bad as he is..."
"What?" yelped James. "I would NEVER call you a -- you-know-what!"
"Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look like you've just got off your broomstick, showing off with that stupid Snich, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who annoys you just because you can -- I'm surprised you broomstick can gett off the ground with that fan head on it. You make me SICK."
She turned on her heel and hurried away.
